Social Studies Unit #1

Social Justice High School Curriculum

In this unit, students participate in a project based experience, creating a campaign to advance insight and/ or suggest action steps which focus on a social justice issue of their choice. Students will participate in action-based dialogue for a focus group that is informed by conflict resolution education (CRE) concepts. Students are invited to do independent readings and investigation/ research of their chosen issue. The content and process of putting the campaign together will involve students using CREtools during their collaborative work. In addition, students are invited to highlight CREconcepts that will be of service to their social justice project. At the end of the unit, the class will collectively debrief and analyze insights into their selected social justice topic, action or awareness work, and CRE concepts.
