Social Studies Unit #1
Introduction to Conflict
This unit provides an introduction to the concepts of Conflict Resolution Education (CRE). This includes defining conflict as unmet human needs, conflict type and sources of conflict, stages of conflict, and distinguishing between constructive and destructive conflict. Students participate in a role-play and then create their own ancient civilizations anchored in meeting human needs (including their own map, political framework, money, resources, and culture).
