Social Studies Unit #5
A Look at Violence, Power, and Culture
In this unit, students define violence and study the dimensions and influence of power, and culture. Students apply these concepts to the exact historical timeframe that they are studying (AncientCivilizations) and analyze how power and violence, shaped the culture of a given era. Subsequently, students study these elements by looking at art history. Students debrief collectively on how they think power, culture, and violence have defined history and draw parallels to today’s world.
